For Love or Money

Naaliw lang ako... hehe... nakapublish pala sa website ng org namin yung article na ginawa ko dati nung nasa call center pa ko :D hehe...:D

Ahoy! From the Real World:
For Love or Money
Paulo Michelle Abat

Volume 16 // Issue 3 Literary 9

Like many new grads, I started my career in a call center, as a Technical Support Representative. I entered the company that boasts of being the largest Asia-based Call Center in the world. We troubleshot desktops for one of the largest computer manufacturers in America. The compensation is more than enough as what you can expect from an outsourcing company. For someone who wants a high paying job and who likes talking, this is the thing for you. You don't have to endure the heat of the sun and the traffic during the day. You just come in to work at night, answer phone calls to help people with their computer problems, and finish your nine-hour shift. That's it. No problem, right?

Wrong, for me that is. Just trying to read whether the caller woke up at the wrong side of the bed or not takes a lot of energy from me. So after being regularized and having my salary increased, I resigned.

I immediately pursued my first choice of career, software engineering. My search lead me to a number of companies as a software engineer/developer. Ironically, I accepted the offer of another outsourcing company (I prefer outsourcing company rather than call center. It’s more pleasing to the ears) but not as a programmer. Why? Because the salary's higher. I was accepted by the I.T. department of my second company (this department doesn't have anything to do with programming). And eventually, as a Quality Assurance Officer for my current company.

Happy? You can say yes, but not quite yet. The desire to be a software engineer is still in me. I'm happy with my current job but I will be happier as a software engineer. I only accepted the job offer of these companies because they pay a lot. To tell you honestly, it's very hard to do a job you don't like. Yes, I'm happy with my work. I'm happy because I get paid a lot to criticize every call I barge into (that's for my current company). It's very hard to throw away your college training for a whole new career. I liked my course in college. I fell in love with it. And at this point, I'm ready to give up this high-paying job for the career I liked most (I just need to get out there and search the job market again. Ü). Of course, I won't leave my job without a "replacement." It's one thing to hate your job and another to have no job at all (IT'S A NO NO IN THE REAL WORLD Ü). Because I think it will be better to do a job because you love it rather than to do a job because it pays a lot. Sure, it will be better if you have both. But for starters, settle for what you love. Ü

UPLB Trip

It's been almost 2 years since my last post. Mejo nawalan lang ako ng time magpublish ng bagong blogs... In other words, tinamad.

Anyway, here's a picture of me and Iam during our recent uplb trip (at long last!!!). Wala si Diane sa picture kase sya ung kumuha nito (hehehe)...

Reason for the trip? Dumating si Diane dito sa pinas from san fran. Two weeks lang sya dito tapos balik ulit sya dun. So we decided to go to LB for a bonding session (Mernel's style). Kaso nakalimutan naming bumili ng cake :'( Di bale, next time na lang :D

Dare You to Move - Switchfoot

My new favorite song:

Dare You to Move
Switchfoot

Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next
What happens next

[Chorus]
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
Tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be

[Chorus]

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before

Sydney Sheldon

Sydney Sheldon books are so predictable. Once you've read one of his books, you've read them all. Characters in his books always have something in common with another of his books. Cliche.

bored!

According to "http://quizme.stvlive.com/pastlife/quiz.php," I was a "Feared Serial Killer" in a past life.

Quiz Me
paulo was
a Feared Serial Killer
in a past life.

Discover your past lives @ Quiz Me

Aside from being a "serial killer," I'm a real couch potato. "That term was invented for me." If i'm not at work or at gimmicks, I'm at home lying in my bed trying to sleep. Maybe I just got over the excitement of strolling in malls. Don't enjoy going to movie houses anymore. I enjoy more in reading books. (haha, watta life!) Can't seem to find anything exciting anymore. (LORD HAVE MERCY ON ME!!!)
